Memphis Public Works Federal Credit Union was chartered February 1963. The credit union was organized to serve the unclassified employees of the City of Memphis.
The charter was amended in September 1973 to change the name to Memphis Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union and include in its membership all employees of the City of Memphis who did not participate in its retirement plan, all employees of the Memphis and Shelby County Hospital Authority (now known as Regional One Health), and employees of the credit union and members of their immediate families.
Other groups that have joined forces with us through mergers or partitions include Shelby County Headstart Program, Memphis Housing Authority, Local 282 Union members, US Motors and Hi-Speed Electrical Company. Since 1963, the credit union has grown from one employee and $25.00 in assets to 8 employees and over $10m in assets.
